UK - GCC FREE TRADE AGREEMENT

On the 20th May, 2026 the United Kingdom concluded a milestone free trade agreement (FTA), with the Gulf Cooperation Council (UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman and Qatar). This deal is estimated to boost the UK economy by £3.7 billion a year.  At a grassroots level, there are direct and indirect commercial benefits for UK businesses, from operational savings to increased margins as a result of removed trade tariffs.
While the agreement will take some months into 2027 to ratify, there are a number of actions that you can take now, to prepare your business to take advantage of the beneficial terms.

THE 6 VISIONS

Many UK start-up and established organisations will be aware that each of the six countries in the GCC have their individual documented strategies and focused pillars, where it is often the "giga and mega" projects that make the headlines.  While opportunity exists in support of flagship initiatives, each of the markets have extensive visions from creating a vibrant society, ensuring fisheries and food security to creating regional data centres in support of AI. If you are considering market-entry, it is worth investing in understanding the strategic vision of your target-market and how your value proposition supports national goals.
